What are men’s issues?
Men’s issues are issues that are common among the male experience, but not specific to men. Men often have certain experiences and may not have the necessary space or tools to process their experiences in healthy ways.
Men’s issues can include:
- Anger management
- Not wanting to appear weak
- Unidentified fears
- Emotional withdrawal and avoidance
- People-pleasing
- Feeling overly responsible for others
- Shutting down or isolating emotionally, mentally and physically; wanting to be left alone
- Spiritual struggles
- Trauma
- Anxiety
Treatment for men’s issues can include:
- Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT) (information, coping skills and homework)
- Psychodynamic (engaging with the unconscious and how it stores memories)
- Existentialism (creating a purpose and meaning for life)
- Gestalt (learning the needs of the different parts within us)
- Analytical/Jung Psychology (learning the meaning of figures and symbols in one’s life)
- Ericksonian (experiential and problem-solving techniques)
- Gestalt/Internal Family Systems (understanding different parts of the self)
