About Lizette

I was born into a Mexican family in San Diego, California. My main family consists of a lovely mother and younger sister. Since I was a child, I have always enjoyed spending time with them and my large extended family.

During my early twenties and the pandemic, I had a professional change of heart as I began to reevaluate my life, my values, and the world around me. So, I decided to pivot from marketing, and go to graduate school to become a therapist. At the same time, I also realized I was queer and felt accepted and safe around other queer people of color, so I decided to focus my work on this population.

When I am not in session, you’ll find me sipping on an iced latte (fun fact: I was a barista before my therapist days!) and browsing a thrift store. I enjoy hanging out with my partner and friends at the local amusement parks and house music events. I also go to therapy myself, (my therapist is awesome!) because I believe therapists should.

Education

Lizette has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from San Diego State University. She also has a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University.

Approach

In the therapy room, you’re in the driver’s seat and my role is the GPS. The GPS helps the driver safely arrive to their destination, and it can also recalculate an alternative route if needed. But ultimately, the driver decides where we go!

Since many of us have had difficult relationships in the past, it is very important to me that I show up as safe, transparent, and consistent person so that we can focus on the therapy work. We might be a good fit if you’re looking for a therapist who is direct, laid-back, and who values your innate wisdom. I also show up authentically human in session, you might find me playing with a fidget toy, reacting, and sipping on my drink during our sessions.
