The counseling process can be similar in some ways to an onion; there are layers of complexity to our lives. As a result during therapy we peel back the layers bit by bit to see what is at the core. It can be challenging at times, and things may get worse. However, that is expected when one begins changing their motivations, growing in their self-awareness, and also beginning to try new ways of dealing with life’s difficulties. Therapy examines what is stopping someone from growing and what is hindering them. Discovering patterns for the way in which life has not worked out, and finding new, better ways of dealing with life.
